O wybranych użyciach czasownika szanować się we współczesnej polszczyźnie

Przedmiotem artykułu jest opis wybranych współczesnych znaczeń czasownika szanować się. Analizie poddano 732 zdania, wyselekcjonowane spośród przykładów dostępnych w korpusach tekstowych. Zebrany materiał podzielono na 6 grup, zróżnicowanych ze względu na kontekst (związki partnerskie i seks, sposób bycia, przestrzeganie zasad, wartości) i sposób użycia (warunkowe, metatekstowe). W analizie znaczenia (jakościowej i ilościowej) uwzględniono dodatkowo właściwości pragmatyczne (typ odbiorcy, funkcja nadawcy) oraz gramatyczne (formy rozkazujące, konstrukcje z czasownikami modalnymi, zdania z negacją). Na tej podstawie określono, co mają na myśli współcześni użytkownicy polszczyzny, używając czasownika szanować się.

The subject of the article is a description of selected modern meanings of the verb szanować się ‘to have self-respect’. The analysis covered 732 sentences selected from among the examples available in the text corpora. The collected material was divided into 6 groups, differentiated by context (partnerships and sex, way of being, adherence to rules, values) and the way of use (conditional, metatextual). In the analysis of meaning (qualitative and quantitative), pragmatic properties (recipient type, sender’s function) and grammatical properties (imperative forms, structures with modal verbs, sentences with negation) were additionally taken into account. On this basis it was determined what modern speakers of the Polish language mean when using the verb szanować się.

The article presents the differences in conceptualizing the idea of moving planned activities or events to a later time. The author of the article refers to the cognitive semantics and considers five Polish verbs: oddalić, odłożyć, odciągnąć, odsunąć and odwlec. The author uses lexicographical explanations and material gathered from the National Corpus of Polish Language and Internet.

Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, co współcześni użytkownicy polszczyzny mają na myśli, gdy używają słowa szanować. W artykule omawiane są jego dawne i współczesne znaczenia. Autorka dokonuje przeglądu leksykograficznego, zestawia dotychczasowe ustalenia badaczy, a także analizuje materiał wyekscerpowany za pomocą wyszukiwarki korpusowej. Omawia również znaczenie modnych fraz z czasownikiem szanować. Metodologicznie praca opiera się na założeniach semantyki leksykalnej.

The purpose of the article is to determine what contemporary Polish users mean when they use the word to respect. The article discusses its past and present meanings. The author undertakes a lexicographic review, collates the previous findings of various researchers, and also analyses material excerpted using the corpus search engine. Another aspect which is addressed is the meaning of commonly used phrases with the verb to respect. Methodologically, the work is based on the assumptions of lexical semantics.

The aim of the article is to present the selected digital tools for language analysis which may be applied in the academic didactics during course classes in linguistics. In the first part of the article advanced corpus search engines were discussed, for instance, National Corpus of Polish (NKJP), National Photo-corpus of the Polish Language (NFJP), as well as ChronoPress – Press Texts Portal, Spokes – corpora of conversational speech, and corpus search engine Monco PL. The second part is dedicated to the tools and applications for the individual creation of browsable language resources (Korpusomat, Virtual Laboratory of Transcription), as well as for the complex analysis of the relationships between language units (plWordnet) and the measurement of the degree of the text comprehension (Jasnopis).
