A partir de los 1950, la poesía nerudiana explora los matices expresivos del humor como una nueva estrategia estética para encarar los tormentos personales y políticos. Si entra en crisis, no obstante, dicho humor es a la vez un espejo agrio, un baluarte y un consuelo liberador para salir del apuro.
