Achieving the vision of Europe as a place of learning for life requires a reorientation of educational policy. An important tool for its implementation are the European and National Qualifications Framework. This article presents the origins, assumptions, achievements and stages of implementation. In conclusion, the author referred to the opportunities and threats of educational reform in Poland, inspired by the EQF / NQF.

Nowdeys, we come back to the tradition of thinking abort the education in the individual categories, what is especially important for pedagogical research, including andragogy, which use the term of individual model. The article constitutes a modest contribution to this process, which shows four generations of academics building the andragogy in German, with a special attention to professor Wiltrud Gieseke – the representative of the forth generation. Her scientific and professional way, main publications, translations into Polish and realized projects in cooperation with Polish andragogists were presented.

The article describes how this extensive research project, Study of Human Capital in Poland (BKL), seeks the answers to the key questions about the future asked by schoolchildren, students, employees, employers, and public institutions responsible for the shaping of policy related to human capital at both national and regional level. The paper aims to give an overview of the problem which is the quastion what competences to hone to build the best professional career, one that will be in demand in the face of dynamic economic changes. Analysis of competence is one of the key elements of the project Human Capital because of its importance for assessing the quality of human capital. The last part of the paper marks how these research results pose a challenge for adult education.
