Ekonomia społeczna, przedsiębiorstwo społeczne to zagadnienia nowe, ale zarazem budzące liczne kontrowersje. W artykule dokonano konceptualizacji procesu ekonomizacji trzeciego sektora. Przeanalizowano transformację polskiej organizacji pozarządowej w kierunku przedsiębiorstwa społecznego na przykładzie Stowarzyszenia "Niepełnosprawni dla Środowiska EKON". Przykład działalności rynkowej Stowarzyszenia EKON posłużył do oceny trafności kryteriów EMES definiujących przedsiębiorstwo społeczne. (abstrakt oryginalny)

The social economy, social entrepreneurship and the functioning of social enterprises are all new issues, nevertheless at the same time they awake frequent controversies.The article made a conceptualization of the process of economization of the third sector. The author analysed the transformation of the non-governmental organizations in Poland towards social enterprises. On the example of the Association EKON were presented the causes and the consequences of this process. The example of market activity of EKON served the to assess the accuracy of the criteria defining social enterprises. (original abstract)

Cezurą czasową w rozwoju i funkcjonowaniu wolontariatu w Polsce jest moment uch-walenia Ustawy z 24 kwietnia 2003 roku o działalności pożytku publicznego i o wolontariacie (Dz.U. 2003 Nr 96, poz. 873 z póź. zm.), kiedy to z aktywności nieformalnej wolontariat stał się działalnością formalną prawnie uregulowaną. Przyjęta w ustawie definicja wolontariusza budziła wśród ekspertów wątpliwości, które przepisy – prawa pracy czy prawa cywilnego – mają zastosowanie do podejmowanej dobrowolnie aktywności, dlatego przy okazji innych prac prowadzonych nad ustawą pojawiła się konieczność jej doprecyzowania.

Turning point in the functioning of volunteering in Poland is the moment of enactment of the Act of 24 April 2003 on public benefit activity and volunteerism (OJ 2003 No. 96, pos. 873 with subsequent/further amendments.), when volunteering from informal activity has become a formal legally regulated activity. Accepted definition of a volunteer in the law raised concerns among experts which rules – labor or civil law – should be applied to activity undertaken voluntarily. Hence it was necessary to clarify it.

The subject of this article is the forgotten works of August Antoni Jakubowski, The Exile’s Song and It is weary, discovered on the last pages of a rare 1835 edition of The Remembrances from Auburn. After the November Uprising, Jakubowski, an illegitimate son of Antoni Malczewski, was sent to America, where he became the author of The Remembrances of a Polish Exile– – the first publication about Polish history, literature, and education written in English and published in the United States. So far, Jakubowski’s short life (ended by suicide), torn between two continents, is shrouded in more mysteries and secrets than confirmed facts. Much has been verified through the research of Przemysław Bloch, a New York-based lawyer, together with the author of this article in the United States. The Exile’s Song and It is weary complete the picture of the last American stage of Jakubowski’s work. They are a concentrated expression of all his characteristic moods, and testify to the extreme alienation, hopelessness, and despair that he felt. Despite its intimate tone, the work in large measure constitutes a general testimony of the experience of Polish exiles forced to travel across the ocean.
