In contemporary world there are numerous socio-economic events. It becomes to count them among intensive transformations in regional development. This article is a trial to seize the most important conceptions according to regional (and local) development (in the context of labour market). It was told more over (among others) processes of polarization and networking. In the end of the article it was also paid attention to another important phenomenons playing meaningful role in regional development (for example clusters), also Polish situation was taken into some consideration.

The process of socio-economic transformation in Poland generates many changes both of local and national character. In this situation, the role of the Łódź labour market undergoes a constant evolution. This paper concerns the analysis of the selected aspects of unemployment in Łódź. The main goal is to present various problems concerning the condition and the structure of unemployment in Łódź. The report is based on statistical data and informations provided by the Provincial Statistical Office in Łódź and the Provincial Labour Office, as well as by the Central Statistical Office in Warszawa. The data were helpful when analyzing unemployment in Łódź. It should be noted also that a number of different issues connected with the Łódź local labour market are open. Hence, it would seem advisable to continue the research in this field.

Modern organizations often face a dilemma of how to choose a concept of management that would result in their gaining sustainable competitive advantage on the market. This is so because of the uncertainty concerning potential gains and costs of introducing a given concept. All this calls for arranging this research field, both with respect to terminology and methodology. In the article its authors point at a system approach as a tool of such arrangement.
