The article reviews the literature in which author studied the names of companies. The collected literature was traced in terms of chronological order. Author examined in which period studies devoted to the names of companies first appear and development of research intensity on this class of names. Author examined naming the branches and to what degree it was the subject of analysis. He also took account of research methods, allowing to see how traditions of polish research chrematonymy developed and what are the new trends in research.
