The authors of the current study have interviewed a number of leading Russian historians in an attempt to find out how the scholars understand public history and how they do it. The article presents an analysis of historians’ views of the aims and motives behind their public lectures, of the models of behaviour, forms of representations of historical material, as well as their reflections on the system of argumentation and the language used at addressing an un-professional audience.

W oparciu o szereg wywiadów z kilkudziesięcioma czołowymi rosyjskimi historykami autorki artykułu próbują znaleźć odpowiedź na pytanie, jak uczeni rozumieją upowszechnianie wiedzy historycznej i jak starają się to robić. Artykuł analizuje, jak profesjonalni historycy pojmują swoje zadania i jakimi motywami kierują się w działalności publicznej adresowanej do nieprofesjonalistów; jakie reprezentują postawy i w jaki sposób przekazują wiedzę historyczną szerszym kręgom społecznym. W tekście znalazły się także refleksje uczonych nad sposobami argumentacji oraz językiem używanym w dziedzinie popularyzacji historii. Płynące z tych rozważań wnioski autorki odnoszą do uniwersyteckiego kształcenia na rosyjskich wydziałach historycznych, które ich zdaniem niedostatecznie przygotowują studentów do umiejętnego upowszechniania wiedzy historycznej w mediach.
