EN
he aim of the article is to present some aspects concerning the presence of Poles and their descendants in Brazil. It resulted from the emigration of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The representatives of the so‑called ‘old emigration’, mostly illiterate peasants, settled down in isolated colonies, devoting themselves to farming. Their social position and conditions of living enabled the maintenance of Polish culture and language. This language contains archaic and regional elements. It was influenced by the languages of the partitioners of Poland first, and later by the Portuguese language.
