The aim of this article is to describe and analyse the politics of history in Slovakia after the Velvet Revolution and gaining independence. Although the Slovak authorities do not have a compact vision of the politics of history, in many aspects and fields it is conducted both by central institutions and other players in public life. This study delivers a synthetic analysis of the Slovak debate on identity, changes in symbolics, lustration, “de-communisation” and education. It defines points of fundamental dispute and disagreement on history in Slovak society. The overview presented in the paper shows the complex nature of the politics of history in Slovakia.

Artykuł omawia 25 lat polskiej polityki zagranicznej po odzyskaniu niepodległości w 1989 roku. Wprowadza podział na pięć okresów, wyznaczanych czytelnymi cezurami. Przedstawione zostają tezy o ewolucyjnym charakterze przemiany w polskiej polityce zagranicznej po upadku komunizmu, o powszechnej zgodzie politycznej przed akcesją do UE i NATO, a także o rosnącym wpływie polityki wewnętrznej na stosunek poszczególnych ugrupowań do polityki zagranicznej w ostatnich dwóch okresach. Cezurą zamykającą ćwierćwiecze i otwierającą kolejny, szósty okres w dziejach polskiej dyplomacji po 1989 roku jest rosyjska agresja na Ukrainę, stawiająca nowe wyzwania przed Polską. The paper describes 25 years of Polish foreign policy after the regaining of independence in 1989. This has been divided into five periods with visible hiatuses. The article presents theses about evolutional nature of the transformation in Polish foreign policy after the fall of Communism, the common political consensus before the NATO and EU accession, and about the growing influence of internal politics on the attitude of particular political entities towards foreign policy in the two last periods. Russian aggression against Ukraine, which poses new challenges to Poland, is the caesura that closes quarter-century and begins the new, sixth period in the history of Polish diplomacy after 1989.
