The following article discusses the potentials of sites of memory of migration as a topic for teaching German as a foreign language, as they do not seem to have been thoroughly and systematically investigated or reflected upon so far. In the first part of the paper, the theoretical frames for combining the topic of migration with the concept of sites of memory are presented. In the second part, examples of ways of working with specific topics and media on sites of memory of migration in German as a foreign language classes are given and their possible potentials for supporting reflective cultural learning are examined.

The use of games in foreign language teaching is a broad academic subject which scientists have been interested in for many decades. Depending on the age of the learners, their language abilities, and the teaching programme, games not only fulfil many functions like organization, education, motivation or cognition but are also of many other uses. Accordingly, games can be a valuable addition to the didactic process in every age group. The educational game “The Literator”, which deals with literature from German speaking countries, has been created with the focus on students of German (German language and literature studies, applied linguistics). The aim of the paper is to present this game and to describe the stages and organization of the preparation for the prototype version of the game, its aims, elements and mechanics as well as the outcome of the test rounds.
