Kujawy from 1815 to 1918/1920 was within the borders of Russia (eastern Kujawy) and Prussia (western Kujawy). In both parts, Jewish communities were established that were demographically, culturally, politically and religiously different, the so-called German Jews and Eastern Jews (Ostjuden). After World War I, Kujawy found itself in reborn Poland. The Jews living there had to adapt to the new conditions and confront new challenges such as migration movements, democratization of life, integration and disintegration of individual Jewish communities, the spontaneous development of social, political and cultural life in the eastern part of Kujawy and their regression in the western part. The background was the national and religious changes and the anti-Semitism that was intensifying in the first years of independent Poland.

The article describes the history of the Jewish community in Dąbie nad Nerem from the beginning of settlement to the end of its existence during World War II. The text has been divided into two parts. The first describes in a synthetic way the most important features of the population in different epochs, the next focuses on the period of war and the Holocaust. New, previously unused source resources were exploited in the form of documents, source editions and various databases.

W artykule opisano dzieje społeczności żydowskiej w Dąbiu nad Nerem od początku osadnictwa do kresu jej istnienia w czasie II wojny światowej. Tekst został podzielony na dwie części. W pierwszej opisano w sposób syntetyczny najważniejsze cechy populacji w różnych epokach, w kolejnej skupiono się na okresie wojny i Zagłady. Wyzyskano nowe, niewykorzystywane wcześniej zasoby źródłowe w postaci dokumentów, edycji źródeł i rozmaitych baz danych.
