Since 2011, Poland was preparing for the first cases of African swine fever on its territory. As confirmed cases of the disease were reported increasingly close to Poland’s eastern border, laboratory testing for ASF in boars was carried out in the border area (along the northern border with the Kaliningrad Oblast and the eastern border with Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine). The first case of the ASF virus in boars was confirmed at the beginning of 2014 and since then Poland has continued to fight this disease.
