The paper discusses the 2nd working draft of government’s bill of reform of Guardianship Law (2. Diskussionteilentwurf ). The fundamental concept of the reform is an overall remodeling of the legal structure of the Civil Code regulations, de-bureaucratization of the requirements regarding custody of the ward’s property, his/her empowerment, introduction of the privilege to choose a non-compensated Guardian before the other types of Guardians with the simultaneous abolition of the subsidiarity principle and the cancellation of the Gegenvormund institution (a form of control authority for the supervision of Guardian).
Permission for Multiple Places of Residence in German Law. Historical Patterns Summary The author uses a specific example, multiple residence under German law, to show the impact of Roman law on many of the modern European legal systems. The observations made by the editors of the German Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (BGB) and the sources and literature they used show that Roman law was still relevant and universal in the 19th century, the age of the great codifications. Today, too, it is admissible under German law to have more than one residence and the issue is not controversial.
The author discusses stages of the amendment to German private law in the field of control of consumer contracts. The amendment entered into force in 2022. Starting from the stage of governmental preliminary draft through the draft itself, discussion and work on it in both houses of the German parliament up to the final adoption, the author tries to show the basic assumptions of the changes and their gradual evolution. Polish readers, apart from the regulations themselves, may be interested in the problems of the German consumer contract market and the fact that not all of them found a remedy in the adopted amendment.
This article presents the results of a review of the procedure for the deductio (foundation ritual) of a Roman colony called Iulia Genetiva, as described in its statute. I use Chapter 104 in an attempt to reconstruct the developments attending the colony’s foundation. The fundamental question is whether the laconic information given by Chapter 104 allows for the reconstruction of a coherent picture of the situation at the time of the foundation. My analysis is supplemented with information on the contemporary political situation in Rome.

‘EDICTUM CLAUDII DE CIVITATE VOLUBILITANORUM’ Summary ‘Edictum Claudii de civitate Volubilitanorum’ is an inscription placed on the pediment of the statue dedicated to Marcus Valerius Severus, son of Bostar. He was the commander of the auxiliary units during the war against Aedemon. The statue was set up by Valerius’s wife Fabia Bira. The inscription contains enumeration of the privileges having been granted by Claudius to the inhabitants of Volubilis. This bestowal of rights appears to have been the emperor’s acknowledgment of the assistance the inhabitants of Volubilis rendered the Romans against Aedemon’s rebellion after the death of Ptolemy, the last king of Mauretania. The rebels rose up following the murder of their king by Caligula and the subsequent incorporation of their country in the Roman Empire. However, the Volubilians supported the Romans. The emperor granted them Roman citizenship and the right to marry nonRoman women, while the town itself was allowed to acquire the estates of inhabitants who had died without leaving an heir (bona vacantia).
The ‘Testamentum Porcelli’ Summary This paper is a translation and commentary of the anonymous fourth-century pamphlet referred as the Testamentum Porcelli. Notwithstanding the humorous nature of the work, it became the subject of scholarly dispute focused on its actual meaning and potential author. The main concepts, together with the characters associated with them, are presented in footnotes and commentaries with an explanation of particular issues, e.g. the structure of the text, Roman law, and allusions to pagan festivals and customs.
