The article constitutes an attempt at identifying the period andcircumstances in which Giovanni Battista Gisleni (1600–1672) created some designs for secular buildings, now held at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London, Castello Sforzesco in Milan and Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden, as well as the intended use of those buildings, shown against the background of the 17th-century development of architecture in Italy and in Poland.

The article is devoted to a group of studies by Giovanni Battista Gisleni (1600–1672) containing several different variants of the design for the church of the Discalced Carmelite nuns in Lvov (constructed in 1641–1648 and 1683–1688). It also attempts to establish the role played in the creative process not only by the architect-designer and the regulations of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, but also by the founder who commissioned the work and the requirements set by him.

Artykuł poświęcony grupie studiów Giovanniego Battisty Gisleniego (1600–1672), zawierających kilka odmiennych wariantów projektu kościoła Karmelitanek Bosych we Lwowie (realizacja 1641–1648 i 1683–1688). Jest także próbą ustalenia roli, jaką w procesie twórczym odgrywał nie tylko architekt-projektant i przepisy zakonu karmelitów bosych, lecz także fundator-zleceniodawca i określone przez niego wymagania.
