The material basis of the paper is an unpublished collection of 47 sonnets by Wincenty Byrski, a poet from Podbeskidzie region. The author of the study discusses the language level of the poems (mainly lexis) in order to reconstruct the picture of Cracow preserved in the texts. According to the analysis, the poet used vocabulary and morphological forms which were known in the Polish language in previous centuries, as well as pompous lexis. The article focuses on the problem of phrases which copy or replace gestures people make during face-to-face communication. It is a question usually raised by socio- and pragmalinguistic. The text is based on Helena Pawlikowska's letters to her husband Mieczyslaw sent during the second half of the 19th century. The author characterises Pawlikowska's language as well her epistolographic culture but mainly he proves that in the private letters one can find both well known phrases and words, as well as sentences used only in unofficial contacts among family members.

This analysis is based on an unpublished collection of 25 sonnets written by Wincenty Byrski one hundred years ago. They are devoted to the Tatra subject matter. The author of the article, applying the methods of cultural linguistics, discusses the descriptions of the mountain nature in the poetic language of W. Byrski. The research is focused on the toponyms, the lexis referring to different rock formations, watercourses, animated nature, atmospheric phenomena and the elements. Simultaneously, the author comments on the solemnly marked lexis, archaisms, regional expressions and comparative structures used by the poet.

This article discusses 487 private letters of a sultan’s painter, Stanisław Chlebowski (1835-1884) to Józef Ignacy Kraszewski and to his family settled in Cracow. The aim of the text is to analyze the linguistic aspect of the correspondence, including particularly the lexis and phraseology, which indicate the characteristics of the work, everyday life and social contacts of the author and the major Polish artists: Juliusz Kossak, Wojciech Kossak, Jan Matejko, Henryk Siemiradzki and Jacek Malczewski.

The considerations set out in the article are the reason for the studies on idiolects of extraordinary creative persons of the past ages. The basis for the study is 487 private letters of a Sultan’s painter – Stanisław Chlebowski (1835–1884), sent to the family settled in Krakow, and J.I. Kraszewski, living in Drezno. The aim of the discussion is the analysis of a linguistic layer of correspondence, including especially the lexical part and phraseology, which allow for a reconstruction of the artist-painter self-portrait – his self-assessment of own works, attitude towards art, creative work, signs of everyday life and social contacts of the sender. The examined means of linguistic discourse externalize the internal states of the writer, his emotional and evaluative attitude towards the presented content, especially himself.
