In this study, we focused on the probation officer as a potential companion for convicts during a specific, difficult stage of their lives through catechesis and through the witness of his or her own life. It is not difficult to see bad behaviour in a person, but we should look for the good in them in spite of everything and try to heal the wounded in them by telling them the good news, this being the Gospel. Without God’s help, support and encouragement, a person marked by imprisonment finds it difficult to rise up from the bottom. The paper also deals with an analysis of the work of the probation officer in terms of the Probation and Mediation Service. Probation, its aims and benefits are discussed. We define accompaniment and analyze the importance of catechesis for a person after serving a sentence. The study also provides suggestions and recommendations for practice.
