The central part of the triptych is a sheet of parchment filled with German and Latin quotations from the Bible and self written autobiographic rhymes, made in 1584 by Thomas Schweicker (1540–1602), a calligrapher from Schwäbisch Hall. He achieved great fame because, as born without arms, he possessed perfect skills in artistic writing with his toes, which fact became the source of his income. The portrait of the calligrapher at work, painted according to Theodor de Bry’s copperplate, was placed in the triptych’s left wing. Its right part is dedicated to an ordering person and a donator of this art piece, a citizen of Wrocław, Hans Reichel (1537–1605), who gave it to St. Mary Magdalene library in his home town. Two extended certificates, confirmed with seals and issued by the citizens of Schwäbisch Hall: Wilhelm Thomas Sanwaldt and a city writer Johann Bock, guarantee the authenticity of the parchment with Schweicker’s calligraphy.
