The article presents old age as a phase of an elderly person’s life in which his/her social roles, especially family roles, are subject to change. In spite of these changes, family is still thought to be a fundamental plane of one’s emotional functioning, it is where intergenerational transmission takes place. However, there are such events in the elderly person’s life as illness, suffering and death that abolish intergenerational divisions, becoming a sphere of common searching for the best ways of going through them.

Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczno-badawczy, jego celem jest dążenie do określenia optymalnych warunków funkcjonowania ludzi starzejących się i starych w środowisku społecznym i środowisku ich życia przy wykorzystaniu ich zasobów do działania i rozwoju w starości. To wskazanie warunków, czynników i działań sprzyjających, wspomagających starzenie się pomyślne. W badaniach założono, że w działaniach wspomagania seniorów w pomyślnym starzeniu się chodzi o stworzenie ram dobrze realizowanej opieki z jednoczesnym dookreśleniem wszelkich czynników wpływających na jej efektywność, w tym warunków i okoliczności, w których przebiega wraz z cechami i kompetencjami osoby ją sprawującej – opiekuna osoby starszej.

The article has a theoretical and research character, its purpose is to seek to determine the optimal conditions for the functioning of aging and old people in the social environment and the environment of their lives, using their resources to act and develop in old age. It is to identify the conditions, factors and activities that are conducive, supporting successful aging. The research assumes that the activities of assisting seniors in successful aging are about creating a framework for well-implemented care while specifying all the factors that affect its effectiveness, including the conditions and circumstances under which it takes place along with the characteristics and competencies of the person providing it – the caregiver of the elderly.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki diagnozy aktualnego stanu edukacji gerontologicznej na poziomie akademickim, realizowanej w polskich uczelniach, na kierunku pedagogika. Badanie zostało zrealizowane na polecenie Sekcji Gerontologii Komitetu Nauk Pedagogicznych PAN i ma na celu ukazanie stanu edukacji gerontologicznej, jej form organizacyjno-metodycznych oraz zakresu treści. Badaniami objęto ofertę edukacyjną 25 uczelni prowadzących kształcenie w dyscyplinie pedagogika. Uwzględniono formy kształcenia gerontologicznego realizowane w latach 2019/20–2020/21 w polskich uczelniach, na kierunku pedagogika. Diagnoza wykazała, że w 15 z nich kształcenie gerontologiczne oferowane jest w ramach różnych specjalności, kierunków lub ścieżek specjalizacyjnych.
