Memoirs of Salomea Pichelstein-Rusetska Adventures of My Life is very interesting source of not just historical facts as such, but their reception in various segments of society. In her records there is a reflection of functioning of stereotypes, rumors and gossip about prominent political and religious leaders of the countries she visited, including Ukraine. She told the story of Ivan Mazepa and Kyrylo Rozumovskyi, his brother Oleksiy – the secret husband of Empress of Russian Empire Elizabeth I. The work of Salomea allows us to hear in the historical perspective what official historical sources did not keep records of. Thus, gossip, rumors, prejudices and legends of XVIII century let us see a panoptical panorama of society of that period.

Wspomnienia Salomeі Pichelstein-Rusieсkiej Echo na świat podane procederu podróży i życia mego awantur... Pamiętnik są bardzo interesującym źródłem nie tylko faktów historycznych, ale także ich recepcji w różnych warstwach społecznych. W Pamiętniku znalazły odzwierciedlenie liczne stereotypy, plotki o działaczach politycznych i religijnych tych krajów, które autorka odwiedziła, w tym także Ukrainy. Salomea Pilsztyn-Rusiecka opowiada o hetmanach ukraińskich Iwanie Mazepe i Kyryle Rozumowskim (Cyrylu Razumowskim) oraz jego bracie Aleksym, który był faworytem carycy Elżbiety I. Dzięki Pamiętnikom Salomeі Pichelstein-Rusieсkiej dowiadujemy się o faktach, których często nie odnajdujemy w oficjalnych źródłach historycznych. Opisane przez autorkę legendy, plotki, pogłoski i inne informacje nieoficjalne pozwalają odtworzyć panoramę życia społecznego w XVIII wieku.

Мемуари Саломеї Пільштин-Русєцької Пригоди мого життя є надзвичайно цікавим джерелом не історичних фактів як таких, а їх рецепції у різних верствах суспільства. У її записах відображено функціонування стереотипів, поголосок та пліток щодо відомих політичних, релігійних діячів тих країн, які вона відвідувала, зокрема й України. Вона розповідає про гетьманів Івана Мазепу та Кирила Розумовського, його брата Олексія – потаємного чоловіка російської імператриці Єлізавети І. Твір Саломеї дозволяє почути в історичній перспективі те, чого не зберегли офіційні історичні джерела. Таким чином, плітки, пересуди, слухи, поголоски та перекази XVIII століття дозволяють побачити паноптичну панораму суспільства того періоду.

The Architectonic and Aesthetical Symmetry in Nathalena Koroleva’s Novel 1313 and Umberto Eco’s Novel The Name of the Rose There is some kind of symmetry between the novel of the Ukrainian writer Nathalena Koroleva 1313 (1934) and the Umberto Eco’s Il nome della rosa (The Name of the Rose, 1980) not only in the historical period, but also in the architectonic of each of them, in the separate elements of their aesthetical meaning, fable conclusions and the system of images (the events which are presented in both novels depict the first half of the XIV century in the Middle Ages monastery where something strange is happening; in each of the novels the monastery is being destroyed because of the fire). Along with that N. Koroleva’s novel is a modernistic project (based on the writer’s outlook – homo religiosus, on the conservative inner world positions). And the U. Eco’s novel is a post-modernistic project (which declares the crisis phenomena of the modern irreligious world, the outlook of the irreligious personality). One of the main expressions, symbols of the asymmetry (which in concrete details tends to the reversed symmetry in the conceptual expressions of the symbols modeling systems that represent the Middle Ages monastery) in the novels of N. Koroleva and U. Eco is the concept of the Devil and the concept of the Dark Ages’ science.
