At the heart of According to Her lies a monologue delivered by Mariamne, portraying the narrative of Jesus’ mother – a modest and devout Jewish woman endeavoring to comprehend the tumultuous events of her time. Set against a backdrop of historical significance, with nearly a century having passed since the fall of Masada, the destruction of the Second Temple, and the fragmentation of the Jewish world, Mariamne’s introspections unfold. By affording a marginalized narrator like Mariamne a resounding voice, Maciej Hen’s work takes on a quasi-political dimension. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia powieść Według niej z 2004 roku. Przy okazji tłumaczenia jej na język angielski autorka przedstawia konceptualne okoliczności powstania powieści, takie jak odradzanie się świadomości kulturowej wśród polskich Żydów w latach 90., czy też wagę przemilczenia tej pozycji w kontekście religijnym 20 lat temu w Polsce. Powieść Według niej to monolog Mariamne, opowieść o matce Jezusa, prostej, pobożnej Żydówce, która stara się nadać sens wszystkim wydarzeniom. Ma prawie sto lat, oblężenie Masady dobiegło końca, Druga Świątynia została zniszczona, świat żydowski jest rozbity na kawałki… Oddając głos marginalizowanej narratorce, Maciej Hen dokonuje niemal politycznego gestu: to sfabularyzowana opowieść o matce chrześcijańskiego mesjasza napisana przez żydowskiego pisarza z perspektywy żydowskiej historii, która podkreśla nowoczesną, silną pozycję narracji marginalnych i narracji kobiecocentrycznych.
