This article attempts to describe the semantic structure of the adjective biały in the Polish language and the adjective белый in the Russian language. Following R. Tokarski’s theory, according to which the semantics of the white color can be interpreted in two ways, the author puts forward a hypothesis that there is a third way to interpret the semantics of this adjective, i.e. the so-called transparent interpretation of white. The analysis uses lexicographic data that were obtained from contemporary dictionaries of both languages.

An internet condolence letter has become a new form of communication in special circumstances. The selection of appropriate vocabulary plays a vital role in writing internet condolence letters as it is indirectly connected with expressing sympathy, support and understanding. In addition, the form of addressing the recipient often determines the right reception of a condolence letter. A recipient is identified in apostrophes in many ways. His or her nationality is emphasized most frequently. Also, ethnicity and social relationships are quite often indicated. Very emotional apostrophes directed to the dead have also been found in the analyzed material. Each kind of identification requires using suitable means of expression. Many of them contain additional emotive language. The analyzed apostrophes are very emotional and full of positive evaluative expressions. All the same, there are also many official, almost pompous constructions.

This article analyzes the semantic ambiguity of color lexis in the Polish and Russian languages. Color ambiguity, as shown by the analysis, is related to the specificity of the color pattern, the lack of stability of the color pattern or its multicolour quality.

The author of the article tries to present the semantic differences in theperception of color patterns based on the example of two languages – Polish and Russian. Contemporary dictionaries as well as the psycholinguistic experiment that was conducted among Polish and Russian respondents provided a basis for the research. The author demonstrates the conceptual diversity of ways in which colors are perceived in the two languages. The differences in color semantics that are presented here are determined bydifferent color patterns, different stages of the development of the color pattern and different perceptions of colors in these languages. It is difficult to classify some of the names of dominant colors. Neither do the respondents provide explicit answers, which makes it difficult to precisely define the name of a given color.

In recent years linguistic studies have laid great emphasis on the semantic side of linguistic expressions. The aim of this paper is to introduce and describe ‘systema digestorium’ viewed from the perspective of the conceptual metaphor in Russian. It describes the process of creating such metaphors based on the notions of source and target domains. From a linguistic point of view, an interest arises to answer the question of how the functioning of such an important organ as the digestive system is reflected in the conceptualization of the surrounding world. This issue is important because the metaphorization is based on the use of everyday human experience, reflecting processes known to all human kind, including those of a physiological nature. The research material was taken from the national corpus of the Russian language and a number of dictionaries. The figurative meaning of activities related to grinding, swallowing, digesting food, as well as excreting food debris became the object of the research. The basic identifiers are the verbs: to chew, to swallow, to digest, to defecate. Each stage of the digestive system has its own specificity and concentrates on specific parts in viewing the world. In addition, the metaphor ‘systema digestorium’ is often used in Russianlinguaculture to convey the expressiveness and originality of a language.
