The Library of the Institute of Physics of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics has been providing high quality special library services over 40 years. The primary role of the Library is supporting the Institute's teaching staff, students and researchers. The automated cataloguing of the library collection was initially carried out in the MicroISIS system, but soon it became clear that the special needs of the library require a new, more appropriate integrated library system. The solution was a new software called BVi 3, developed within the Institute. The integrated system has been subject to major enhancements over the past few years. As a result, library users interested in various fields of physics can access the collection via the library website. The Library places great emphasis on the cooperation with other libraries, which is essential from the point of view of the efficiency of the services. The two most important partners are the KFKI Atomic Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the National Technical Information Centre and Library which also operates within the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The partner libraries are working on integrating their catalogues and creating a common searching interface in order to serve users more effectively.
