The acceptance of Constitutional for European Union stirred emotions among Polish political parties and caused their division which did not reflect the question of support for the integration process at all. Some of the political groups wanted to accept the given document with some reservations (social democrats, peasant partie), other groups however decidedly rejected it (nationalists, conservatives, liberals, Self-Defense party). The most controversial was the fact of rejecting the appeal to God and Christian values in the preamble of the Treaty, changes of voting system in EU Council (established previously in Nicea Treaty) and introduction of the rule of EU constitution priority over the State constitution.
