The article is an attempt to present the material cultural landscape (appearance) of Ciechanów in December 1806 when Napoleon Bonaparte entered the city. The available publications and archives were used, mainly stored in the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw and in the archives in Mława. This study can be considered a draft that could probably be expanded after detailed searches in the archives in Białystok, in German archives, and after an in-depth examination of French documents (diaries, correspondence) concerning northern Mazovia in 1806–1807.

Artykuł jest próbą przedstawienia materialnego krajobrazu kulturowego (wyglądu) Ciechanowa w grudniu 1806 r., w czasie wjazdu Napoleona Bonaparte do tego miasta. Wykorzystane zostały dostępne publikacje oraz archiwalia, głównie przechowywane w Archiwum Głównym Akt Dawnych w Warszawie i w archiwum w Mławie. Niniejsze opracowanie można uznać za szkic, który zapewne mógłby być rozbudowany po szczegółowych kwerendach w archiwum w Białymstoku, w archiwach niemieckich oraz po pogłębionym rozpoznaniu francuskich dokumentów (pamiętniki, korespondencja) tyczących się północnego Mazowsza w 1806–1807 r.
