The paper is dedicated to the analysis of modal constructions as the modal predicates with the verb chcieć and the impersonal form chcieć się. The analysis also concerns colloquial (conversational) utterances of children five and six years old. The ways in which the children use constructions in the language and text and treat the syntactic, pragmatic and semantic elements of language provide information on the development of their communicative and language competence.
