Reflections on taboo topics in children’s literature and art have been the subject of many scientific discussions and considerations. Researchers are wondering how to convey sensitive issues in a way that is appropriate for children audience. There are numerous questions about what topics should be included concerning taboo area and are there any limits that should be set? The subject of the article will be to signal the trend of “removing the taboo” in the field of children’s art that has existed for many years. The activities of the Hans Christian Andersen Theatre in Lublin and the series Difficult isssues will be discussed in this review. Also, one of the performances will be outlined. On the basis of Polite’s performance, the way of presenting existential themes in art for children will be shown.

Refleksja na temat tabu w literaturze i sztuce dziecięcej od lat jest tematem wielu naukowych dyskusji i rozważań. Badacze zastanawiają się, w jaki sposób przekazać drażliwą problematykę w sposób odpowiedni dla małego odbiorcy. Pojawiają się liczne pytania, jakie tematy zaliczyć do sfery tabu i czy są jakieś jej granice. Tematem artykułu jest zasygnalizowanie istniejącego już od wielu lat nurtu „detabuizowania” sztuki dla dzieci. Przywołano działania Teatru im. Hansa Christiana Andersena w Lublinie i cykl Trudne sprawy oraz zarysowano tematykę jednego ze spektakli w ramach tego przedsięwzięcia. Na podstawie przedstawienia Grzeczna ukazany został sposób realizacji tematów egzystencjalnych w sztuce dla dzieci.
