The article provides a cross-sectional description of the subject of maps in archives, with the phenomenon shown from several perspectives. In the first part, the author examines the presence of cartographic content in archival discourse based on analysis of ten volumes of the “Krakowski Rocznik Archiwalny” (Krakow Archival Annual), and describes the availability of maps in the resources of the National Archives in Krakow. In the next section, he discusses examples of cartographic collections, selected maps, descriptions and the challenges they pose in terms of content analysis. In the Mapy archiwów (Archive maps) section, he presents the possible ways of using interactive maps in sharing and searching archives using geographical indexes. In the following section, Archiwa na mapach (Archives on maps), he discusses the availability of information regarding the locations of archives and their territorial properties. The article also contains a description of four examples of modern geoportals and interactive maps that present old maps from archival resources. In the summary, the author indicates the challenges and potential directions of developing the availability of maps from archives.

Artykuł opisuje w przekrojowy sposób tematykę map w archiwach. Zjawisko to zostało ukazane z kilku punktów widzenia. W części pierwszej autor pochyla się nad zagadnieniem obecności treści kartograficznych w dyskursie archiwalnym na przykładzie analizy dziesięciu tomów „Krakowskiego Rocznika Archiwalnego” oraz opisuje dostępność map w zasobie Archiwum Narodowego w Krakowie. W kolejnej omawia przykłady kolekcji kartograficznych, wybranych z nich map, opisów oraz wyzwań, jakie stwarzają w zakresie analizy treści. W części Mapy archiwów pokazuje możliwości zastosowania map interaktywnych w udostępnianiu i przeszukiwaniu archiwów z wykorzystaniem indeksów geograficznych. W kolejnej – Archiwa na mapach – porusza kwestię dostępności informacji przestrzennej o lokalizacjach archiwów oraz ich właściwości terytorialnej. Artykuł zawiera także opis czterech przykładów nowoczesnych geoportali i map interaktywnych prezentujących dawne mapy znajdujące się w zasobach archiwalnych. W podsumowaniu autor wskazuje wyzwania i potencjalne kierunki rozwoju udostępniania map z archiwów.

This article undertakes a critical analysis of maps depicting the Kraków Ghetto produced in the post-Second World War period between 1946 and 2023. The available maps exhibit considerable variation in quality, as cartographic inaccuracies can significantly distort the representation of the ghetto space, thereby impacting research and the reconstruction of narratives pertaining to the locations where Jews resided, laboured, sought refuge, and perished during the occupation. The extant maps were examined from both cartographic and historical perspectives, resulting in a systematisation of knowledge concerning ghetto maps available within the literature. Following an introductory section, the article provides a concise overview of the Kraków ghetto’s history and presents a quantitative and qualitative analysis of 35 maps. Among other features, the analysis encompasses streets (including names and layout), buildings, and other significant elements (e.g., gates, tram lines, and ghetto boundaries) represented on the maps.

Artykuł poświęcony jest krytycznej analizie map getta krakowskiego powstałych po II wojnie światowej w latach 1946–2023. Dostępne mapy są bardzo zróżnicowane pod względem jakości, gdyż mapa zawierająca błędy może znacząco wpłynąć na wyobrażenie przestrzeni getta podczas badań i odtwarzania historii związanych z miejscami zamieszkania, pracy, ukrywania się i śmierci Żydów podczas okupacji. Dostępne mapy poddano analizie pod kątem kartograficznym i historycznym. W efekcie usystematyzowano wiedzę o dostępnych w literaturze mapach getta. W artykule, po wprowadzeniu, przedstawiono pokrótce historię krakowskiego getta, a następnie zaprezentowano analizę ilościową i jakościową 35 map. Opisano m.in. pojawiające się na mapach: ulice (nazwy i układ), budynki i inne obiekty (bramy, linie tramwajowe, granice).
