The obedience of the diocesan and religious priest is part of the mission of following Jesus Christ himself. It is an expression of availability to God and His plans. It is a constant search and discovery of His will. Religious priestly obedience is linked to the vowed evangelical counsel of obedience and the pledge of honor and obedience made during the ordination of the diaconate and the presbyterate. Diocesan obedience to the liturgy of diaconate and presbyterate ordination has a similar responsibility, but it binds the priest directly to the local Church.

Posłuszeństwo kapłana diecezjalnego, jak i zakonnego, wpisuje się w misję naśladowania samego Jezusa Chrystusa. Jest ono wyrazem dyspozycyjności wobec Boga; jest nieustannym poszukiwaniem i odkrywaniem Jego woli. Posłuszeństwo kapłańskie zakonne jest związane ze ślubowaną ewangeliczną radą posłuszeństwa i złożonym przyrzeczeniem czci i posłuszeństwa podczas święceń diakonatu i prezbiteratu. Posłuszeństwo diecezjalne składane podczas liturgii święceń diakonatu i prezbiteratu posiada podobny zakres odpowiedzialności, wiąże jednak kapłana bezpośrednio z Kościołem lokalnym.

The author of the article shows the teaching of saint John Paul II on the presence and role of elderly people in the Church and society. Thus the author describes the care of the Pope for people in the autumn of their life. The last stage of life is shown here as a direct preparation for meeting God in eternity. In the article the following issues are taken into account: the person’s vocation as a gift and task, good life, old age in the Bible, wisdom as a fruit of maturity and preparation for eternity.

Autor artykułu ukazuje spojrzenie św. Jana Pawła II na obecność osób w podeszłym wieku w Kościele i społeczeństwie. Ukazuje zatroskanie papieża o człowieka przeżywającego jesień swojego życia. Ważne staje się pozytywne spojrzenie na ostatni etap ludzkiego życia, który jest bezpośrednim przygotowaniem do spotkania z Bogiem w wieczności. Omówione zostają tu takie zagadnienia, jak: powołanie człowieka darem i zadaniem; dobrze przeżyć dar życia; starość w Biblii; mądrość owocem jesieni życia oraz przygotowanie do wieczności.

Religious vocation is a gift to the whole Church. It is a matter of particular concern for popes. Both St. John Paul II and Pope Francis have a special respect towards religious people. This study is an attempt to show religious life with respect to vocation, radicalism and mission taking the teaching of John Paul II and Francis into account. The right direction of consecrated persons’ lives is determined by their thoughts. It is necessary here on the Earth to point out the eternal perspective.

Powołanie zakonne jest darem dla całego Kościoła. Jest ono przedmiotem szczególnej troski poszczególnych papieży. Zarówno św. Jan Paweł II, jak i papież Franciszek otaczają osoby zakonne szczególnym szacunkiem. Niniejsze opracowanie stanowi próbę ukazania życia zakonnego w perspektywie powołania, radykalizmu i posłania w ujęciu Jana Pawła II i Franciszka. Ich myśli wyznaczają właściwy kierunek życia osób konsekrowanych. Tym kierunkiem jest wskazywanie już tu – na ziemi na perspektywę wieczności.
