As it has been already stated, the main task of a scholar who analyses spiritual diaries is to reconstruct the personality and in particular the spirituality of their heroes. Jankowski’s notes are a testimony of his search for norms of living in the new situation, after “awakening”, which is accompanied by a process of critical self-observation. Books and the contact with the sea provide the space for the search. An important role is also played by people: the wife and the mother. Jankowski’s mother is an unparalleled example and model of faith. Trying to overcome weaknesses and thoughts the hero does not try to discover the formula of faith intellectually. He would like to live according to it. However, he is always on the way.
