Skrajna sytuacja, jaką jest wojna, zagraża zwłaszcza najsłabszym, czyli dzieciom i młodzieży. Dlatego w obliczu sytuacji realnego zagrożenia po ludobójstwie w Rwandzie podjęto natychmiast działania pomocowe i opiekuńcze. Jednym z takich działań był projekt na rzecz dzieci w Afryce o nazwie „Adopcja Serca”. Głównym motywem włączania się w adopcję serca stała się ewangeliczna zasada miłości. Miłość bliźniego jest odpowiedzią na konkretne potrzeby drugiego człowieka. Miłość bliźniego w ujęciu chrześcijańskim oznacza dawanie czegoś z siebie, rezygnowanie z własnych potrzeb na rzecz drugiego człowieka, a także bycie gotowym do poświęcania się dla innych ludzi.

War as an extreme situation threatens especially the most vulnerable, that is, children and adolescents. Therefore, in the face of real danger after the genocide in Rwanda, adequate care and support activities were taken. The program for children in Africa called “Adoption of Heart” was one of them. The evangelical principle of love was the main motive for joining the program. Love of neighbor is a response to the specific needs of others. Charity in Christian terms means giving something of oneself, forgoing one’s own needs for other people as well as being ready to sacrifice oneself for others.

Rwanda today faces various challenges of civilization, first of all, however, it has ti copy with the legacy of the ehnic genocide. Not surprisingly, that one of the fundamental tasks that the country and its government set itself after 1994 became the problem of the legal judgement of persons responsible for genocide and of the establishing of national unity, which would prevent Rwanda from the next conflict. Therefore, apart from judging on a massive scale all those guilty of crimes, the government has taken parallel action for the idea of commemorating the victims and began the process of building national unity. Today, Rwanda is a place for education which aims at the creation of a one national community and the state, in other words „education for the community”.

Podczas Soboru Watykańskiego II Kościoł katolicki dokonał weryfikacji swoich poglądów na płaszczyźnie teologiczno-wychowawczej. W centrum jego nauki nadal pozostaje fundamentalna teza o godności osoby ludzkiej stanowiącej obraz Boga. W tym kontekście należy również odczytywać zmiany, jakie dokonały się w sposobie interpretowania apostolskiej idei Wincentego Pallottiego. Cele założonego przez niego Zjednoczenia Apostolstwa Katolickiego (ZAK) podlegały modyfikacjom, które przebiegały równolegle do posoborowej odnowy Kościoła. W skład Zjednoczenia od momentu jego powstania wchodzi między innymi Wspólnota Księży i Braci znana pod nazwą Stowarzyszenia Apostolstwa Katolickiego (SAC).

The role of the Church in the field of education remains beyond doubt. It went through various stages in history. The Church has made attempts to verify the views on the theological-educational level. Among the various changes that have positively influenced the human development process, the Church, however, unalterably remains with the fundamental thesis around which various theories are built – and that is the dignity of the human person as image of God. In this context the changes in the perception of the idea of apostolic Vincent Pallotti must be understood. Educational objectives set by the work of Vincent Pallotti, i.e. Union of the Catholic Apostolate (UCA) took the form of evolutionary change and ran in direct proportion to changes in the universal Church.

Wincenty Pallotti (1795-1850) nazywany przez papieży prorokiem apo¬stolstwa ludzi świeckich, pragnął kształtować ludzi na dobrych chrześci¬jan i aktywnych obywateli. Uważał, że przygotowanie ludzi świeckich do odpowiedzialnej działalności społeczno-apostolskiej wymaga udzielenia im pomocy w ukształtowaniu chrześcijańskiego spojrzenia na świat i na człowieka. Dynamiczna i celowa aktywność społeczno-apostolska wyma¬ga odpowiedniego przygotowania, a co za tym idzie domaga się określo¬nej metody pedagogicznej. Wobec problemów narastających wokół wia¬ry i spraw społecznych, którymi Kościół w jego czasach musiał się zająć oraz w obliczu poszerzania się zadań związanych z głoszeniem Ewangelii w kraju i poza jego granicami, W. Pallotti zwrócił uwagę na naglącą ko¬nieczność ożywiania wiary i rozpalania miłości wśród ludzi wierzących. Uważał, że do osiągnięcia tego celu niezbędne jest pozyskanie współpracy wszystkich członków Kościoła – tak duchownych, jak i świeckich – oraz że dla pełniejszego i skuteczniejszego wykonania społeczno-apostolskich zadań Kościoła należy zjednoczyć ich wysiłki. Z czasem w Wincentym Pallottim dojrzewa idea powołania odpowiednich struktur pomocnych w apostolstwie ludzi świeckich. Dlatego z jego inicjatywy powstaje dzieło Zjednoczenia Apostolstwa Katolickiego (ZAK), jako zrzeszenie wszyst¬kich katolików, którzy bez żadnych szczególnych zobowiązań, jedynie w duchu miłości i gorliwości współpracować będą przy pomocy dostęp¬nych sobie środków dla wszechstronnego rozwoju człowieka i rozkrze¬wiania wiary katolickiej. Oddziaływanie to odnosi się nie tylko do pomocy w rozwoju religijnym, ale jest próbą aktywizacji osobowo-społecznej.

Wincenty Pallotti (1795-1850) was called by the popes as a prophet of preaching secular people. He wanted to shape people as good Chri¬stians and active citizens. He claimed that one should help the preaching secular people in their social apostolic activity to show the Christian view of the world and man. The dynamic and intentional social apostolic activity requires specific preparation and pedagogical method. W Pallotti paid a special attention to the sudden need to enliven the faith amongst the believers while the Church was dealing with the rising problems on social and faith matters connected to the expanding its pre¬aching. He thought that united members of the church both secular and ecclesiastic and their cooperation can accomplish the socio - apostolic mission of the Church. In time he thought of the idea to create the struc¬tural body which would help the preaching secular people in the Church and the Catholic United Apostolic organisation was created. It is uniting all the Catholics who would like to cooperate in diffusing the Catholic faith in the spirit of love and devotion. They would use the accessible measures to wide development of man. This activity concerns religious development as well as it is an attempt of socio-personal activity.

The article presents educational, care and aid activities carried out for children in Rwanda. As a result of the civil war in this country in 1994, several hundred thousand children were orphaned. Real emergency situation of children affected by the phenomenon of orphanhood has launched a wide intervention and compensation activities of diverse entities and milieus. Various assistance programs were created. “Adoption of the Heart”, a movement for children in Africa in which the Society of Pallotines is involved is an example of such initiatives. The author would like to point out that proper care and educational process should be carried out in such a way as not to interfere with the natural development of children’s independence, regardless of their age.

Artykuł przedstawia działalność opiekuńczo-wychowawczą i pomocową realizowaną na rzecz dzieci w Rwandzie. W wyniku wojny domowej w tym kraju w 1994 r. osieroconych zostało kilkaset tysięcy dzieci. Sytuacja rzeczywistego zagrożenia dzieci dotkniętych zjawiskiem sieroctwa uruchomiła szeroką działalność interwencyjną i kompensacyjną różnych środowisk i podmiotów. Powstawały różne programy pomocowe. Jedną z takich inicjatyw jest ruch na rzecz dzieci w Afryce o nazwie „Adopcja Serca”, w którą zaangażowało się Zgromadzenie Pallotynów. Autor pragnie ukazać, że prawidłowy proces opiekuńczo-wychowawczy powinien być realizowany w taki sposób, aby nie zakłócić naturalnego rozwoju samodzielności dziecka, bez względu na jego wiek.
