On the basis of the toponyms included in the works of historians, the article presents the issue of vine-growing in Poland. The first mention of vine-growing in this territory comes from the year 1136. Unfavourable climatic conditions restricted the possibility of vine growing development and gradually lead to its end.

The article analyses the names of old Czech castles (most of which developed into towns and cities) recorded in the old Polish historical documents. A great deal of attention is devoted to the development of the individual recorded forms and their relationships to the Czech forms of the analysed names.
