The article presents different ways of comprehending social philosophy in Poland after 1989. That year important events set their stamp on numerous social issues in Poland and on many areas of social thought. That is why it is interesting if and how the turning point in 1989 influenced ways of comprehending social philosophy and social philosophers' theoretical self-consciousness. The presented review of standpoints allows to formulate a statement that the events of 1989 did not bring any essentially different or new ways of comprehending social philosophy in Poland.

Scientific research and academia in Poland is undergoing radical change. It is also true about the scientific ethos. In this seminal moment, I want to determine if scientists and academia uphold the same principles at the foundation of science, if the scientific ethos differentiates between universities and their legal status, and if so, to what degree. The data about the scientific ethos of scientist are taken from the research by Marzena Feldy, the data about the scientific ethos of particular universities — from their ethical codes of conduct. The analysis shows differences between the scientific ethos declared by the universities and academia. In the ethical code of the universities, the dominant part is the ethos of academic study, whereas when it comes to the scientist, it is more varied, containing parts of academic, post-academic, and industrial codes. The type and legal status of universities does not influence their ethical code.
