The text explores the key andragogical category 'adult as a learner' by putting adulthood in the context of being a university student . The authoress presenting a part of her phenomenographic research reconstructs experiences of adulthood by extra-mural students on two levels: studying as currently inevitable (necessary) activity and university as a perceived space fulfilling the requirements of a student. As a result the domains of description of adulthood reveal the concept of a student with a low commitment for constructing knowledge but the one placing himself as the knowledgeable agent.
