The value system of teenagers experiences numerous changes and the position of some of the values is quite dynamic. A similar transformation applies to the educational aspirations of teenagers. Teenagers’ educational aspirations are affected by the different stages of life and are influenced by an abundance of factors. This article presents the results of research conducted in Białystok. A diagnostic poll method and a survey technique (where an authorized questionnaire constituted a tool) were applied. An analysis of the value system was based on the Rokeach Value Survey (RVS), which consists of 18 terminal values (goals) and 18 instrumental values (means). The task for participants in the survey was to arrange the 18 terminal values, followed by the 18 instrumental values, into an order “of importance to YOU, as guiding principles in YOUR life” (Rokeach, 1973, p. 27) on the basis of the 5 degrees scale. The educational aspiration level of teenagers was also analyzed on the basis of the realization of educational goals. Depending on educational aspiration level, a group value system developed that simultaneously presented the position of values related to education. The tested group consisted of junior high (gymnasium) and high school (liceum) seniors; both educational stages require decision making in respect to the pursuit of further education. It was decided that the test results between gymnasium and high school students shall be compared in order to present the changes occurring in both value systems and the variety of goals that young people have at the different stages in their life. The results of the research made it a possibility to seek a correlation between teenagers’ educational aspirations and the position of values connected with education in their value system.
