The objective of the article is presentation of people with hearing disability as a community who create an own culture and its characteristic. The etiology of forming the deaf community has been presented, as well as criteria of recognizing it as a language and cultural minority. A presentation of terms such as multiculturalism, interculturalism and references of assumptions of international education to social and cultural aspects of deaf people’s functioning in the environment of people with functional sense of hearing has been provided.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie społeczności osób z niepełnosprawnością narządu słuchu jako zbiorowości ludzi tworzących własną kulturę i jej charakterystyka. Przedstawione została etiologia powstawania społeczności Głuchych oraz kryteria uznania jej za mniejszość językowo-kulturową. Przedstawiono pojęcia wielokulturowości i międzykulturowości oraz odniesiono założenia edukacji międzykulturowej do społecznych i kulturowych aspektów funkcjonowania osób głuchych w otoczeniu osób ze sprawnym zmysłem słuchu.

This article presents the description of the course in Polish Sign Language conducted as an MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), and, in particular, the possibility of the implementation of inter-cultural aspects into the curriculum of Polish Sign Language as a foreign language with the application of this very formula. The technical structure of the course itself, and also methodological assumptions behind conducting it, are presented in this article as well. The description of the emplotment of the contents contained in it as a method of counteracting the phenomenon of abandoning the course and including intercultural contents into the curriculum of the course. What is discussed as well is the advantages resulting from including intercultural elements into instruction into Polish Sign Language.

Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia opis kursu polskiego języka migowego realizowany w formie MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), a w szczególności pokazuje możliwość implementacji aspektów międzykulturowych do nauczania języka migowego jako obcego właśnie w takiej formule. Zaprezentowana w nim została techniczna budowa samego kursu oraz założenia metodyczne jego realizacji. Przedstawiono opis fabularyzacji zawartych w nim treści, jako metody przeciwdziałania porzucaniu nauki i włączenia do programu kursu treści międzykulturowych. Omówione również zostały korzyści płynące z włączenia elementów międzykulturowych do kształcenia polskiego języka migowego.

The objective of this paper is to indicate a new area for reflection and scientific investigation which is constituted by teaching and learning the Polish Sign Language. Knowledge within this scope is constantly developed by means of the activity of teachers in educational practice, in the course of various training events, courses, classes of foreign languages and other forms of education. The acquired practical knowledge may, by means of research work, be transformed into scientific knowledge and accumulated within a single scope of (subdiscipline?) of the didactics of the sign language.

Celem artykułu jest wskazanie nowego obszaru dla refleksji i eksploracji naukowej, jakim jest nauczanie i uczenie się polskiego języka migowego. Wiedza z tego zakresu jest nieustannie rozwijana poprzez działalność nauczycieli w praktyce edukacyjnej podczas różnego rodzaju szkoleń, kursów, lektoratów i innych form kształcenia. In this paper, the project implemented within the frameworks of preparinga doctoral dissertation is presented. The research question has been conducted asthe result of noticing the need of developing the standards of instruction within thescope of the Polish Sign Language, taking under consideration assumptions behindintercultural education. In the exploratory part of the project, the state of the mattersin the field of instruction within the scope of the Polish Sign Language in Polandis investigated. The data obtained in the course of this stage have made it possibleto conduct participatory research in action, within the frameworks of which the educationalproject in question was implemented. In the text, the preliminary results ofthe analysis of collected data are discussed.

W artykule przedstawiony jest projekt zrealizowany w ramach przygotowywania rozprawy doktorskiej. Badania zostały przeprowadzone w wyniku dostrzeżenia potrzeby wypracowania standardów kształcenia polskiego języka migowego,z uwzględnieniem założeń edukacji międzykulturowej. W części eksploracyjnej projekturealizowane było rozpoznanie stanu kształcenia PJM w Polsce. Dane, uzyskanew tym etapie, pozwoliły na przeprowadzenie uczestniczących badań w działaniu,w ramach których zrealizowany został projekt edukacyjny. W tekście zostały omówionewstępne rezultaty analiz zgromadzonych danych.

The article includes an analysis of issues concerning the question of intercultural pedagogy, i.e. the notions of multiculturalism and interculturalism, creating identity in the context of multiculturalism and multicultural and intercultural education. It also presents the situation of people with hearing impairment and the culture they create on the basis of sign language, a way of communication different from the dominant one, in relation with the culture of the dominant group, people who are perfectly able and use the phonic language. Coexistence of distinct cultures of unequal status in the same area has consequences for the education of a deaf child. One solution might be a method of bilingual teaching that enables unimpeded development (in particular language development) while passing on norms and values typical of the minority culture and acquiring general facts in a manner appropriate to the learner’s needs.

Przygotowany artykuł zawiera analizę zagadnień, znajdujących się w nurcie pedagogiki międzykulturowej, m.in. pojęć wielokulturowości i międzykulturowości, kreowania tożsamości w kontekście wielokulturowości oraz edukacji wielo- i międzykulturowej. Przedstawiono w nim również sytuację osób z uszkodzonym narządem słuchu oraz tworzoną przez nich kulturę, której podstawę stanowi odmienny od dominującego sposób komunikowania, czyli język migowy, w relacji z kulturą grupy dominującej, jaką stanowią osoby w pełni sprawne, posługujące się językiem fonicznym. Współwystępowanie na tym samym terytorium odmiennych, nierównorzędnych kultur wywołuje konsekwencje dla edukacji dziecka niesłyszącego, na które odpowiedzią może być realizowana metodą nauczania bilingwalnego jako rozwiązanie, pozwalające na swobodny rozwój (szczególnie językowy), a także przekaz norm i wartości właściwych dla kultury mniejszościowej oraz nabywanie treści uniwersalnych w sposób adekwatny do potrzeb wychowanków.

Deaf-friendly research - conducting research using an electronic questionnaire

A non-exclusive approach in conducting survey-based research which assumes the participation of people with disabilities is one of the important ethical aspects of the research process. The use of the tool, which has been designed in accordance with the universal user-oriented design, makes it possible for people with disabilities to take an active part in surveys. This means that they can present their attitudes and express opinions within the conducted surveys. The aim of the article is to present the issue of conducting surveys using an electronic questionnaire among deaf people, modelled on the Avatar PJM project. People with a hearing impairment, whose first or primary language used for communication is a sign language, should be given a questionnaire in an appropriate form enabling them to complete it easily. The discussed project presents a proposal to construct a questionnaire using the LimeSurvey software. The questionnaire has been adapted to the needs and expectations of the recipient group. The presented solution for designing a user-friendly research tool can be used in other types of research in this group of respondents (e.g. industrial or educational research) or can become an inspiration for further research in this field.
