The author touches upon the question of the canonical interpretation of the Bible as instanced by the Book of Job. First, he discusses the place of the Book of Job in the Jewish and Christian canons. In the end, he presents some hermeneutic implications that result from that fact that Job has been placed in the third sector of canon (Ketubim, Hagiographa), usually in the first place. This indicates that there is a need to read according to the key of biblical wisdom (hokma), rather than in the historical aspect.

Designed as an introduction to the topic of „The Bible in Culture”, this article is, by its very nature, synthetic. The author merely wanted to signal the necessity of a new approach to the Biblical literature which was by no means being created in isolation, independently of rich cultural milieu. For Israel, such an environment was not only a great civilization of Egypt, Anatolia or Mesopotamia but also traditional religions of Syria and Palestine. The metaphor of the seed sown into the soil, to which the Gospel so often refers, has its deep meaning also when applied to the Old Testament. Biblical authors were firmly rooted in the culture of their era, transgressing the borders of the chosen nation. However, with time a tendency would appear of Israel closing itself to the influence of the pagan world. Christ, neverthe- less, addresses his good news to all peoples (Mt 28,19), which presupposes its incul- tuxation depending on the milieu of a given epoch.

The author shows the literary background of the evangelical Beatitudes in the books of wisdom from the Old Testament (Psalms, Proverbs, and Sirach). He starts with an explication of the grammatical form of ashre (lit. „happiness”: status constructus dualiś). Finally, he discusses two Qumran parallels (4Q185 and 525). They illustrate the transition from individual beatitudes, found in the sapiential literature of the Old Testament, to the series of evangelical beatitudes.

Starting from a very important commentary made by Karl Elliger (1966) and the first anthropological work by Mary Douglas, published in the same, the author seeks to show the development of studies on this little known Book of the Bible. The four parts of the paper embrace a broad panorama of scientific research on the Book of Leviticus. In the first part the author discusses the most important commentaries, especially those written in German and English. Then he summarizes the state of literary research on the mutual relationship of both sources Lev (P − Priestly Source and H − Code of Holiness). And then he discusses the more recent proposals of the literary composition of the Book, pointing to its concentric structure. Finally, he reviews anthropological and strictly theological studies, giving examples of some selected subjects from the Book.

The Aramaic expression ”rûah.’ĕlāhîn qaddîszîn” is commonly translated, following Heronymus’ Vulgate as „spirit of holy gods”. It has also a more profound sense, as pointed by the context of Dn 4, 5. It says that a prophet takes a particular part in the gifts of God and knows the hidden sense of events. Such an understanding of the „holy spirit” prepares for the reception of the whole of revelation in the Books of the New Testament.

The Chronicler presents the history of David’s dynasty as a series of disloyal acts contrary to the covenant with God. The final stage of this history is marked by strong admonitions indicating the approaching wrath of God. However, the final sentence of the book, a quote from the decree of Cyrus, conveys the truth that God’s mercy is stronger than His wrath.

After the introductory part discussing the historical background and the surroundings in which Solomon’s Psalms were composed, the article contains translations of the first eight psalms from Greek. In the footnotes there are references to the texts from the Old Testament which were used in Solomon’s Psalms and to the texts from the New Testament where literary similarities to the Psalms can be noticed.

1. The sanctuary in Jerusalem has always been a place in which the word of God is present amidst Israel. St. Luke adds the Christological aspect to the biblical theology of the temple. 2. The third Gospel from its beginning points to Jesus as the genuine and ultimate Temple of the new People of God, the place of a salvific encounter between God and man. The Acts of the Apostles transpose these symbols on the Church. 3. The Gospel of Childhood according to St. Luke emphasises the role of Mary in the history of salvation. The Mother of Jesus is the icon of the Church and model for all disciples, whose “heart” should a living temple of the Word. 4. The biblical Revelation ends with a vision of “the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God” (Acts 21:10). There is no temple in this city, for its Temple is the Lord, God almighty, and the Lamb (Acts 21:22).
