The State Mining Directorate in Banská Štiavnica was established at the beginning of 1919, as the successor of the former Hungarian Royal Main Mining Directorate and took over several mining operations in Slovakia. After 1919, his activities were gradually focused on the management of establishments in the Banská Štiavnica-Hodruša ore district. The paper focuses on the development and consequences of the integration efforts of the Czechoslovak authorities and their representatives in the new socio-political conditions immediately after the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic.

Shortly after the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the issues of political stability of the state, personnel and production continuity, and problems with the supply of raw materials and foodstuffs were particularly topical. The economic changes that affected Slovakia after the establishment of the new state had a significant impact on the individual regions of Slovakia. These were fundamental economic changes linked to the merger of two different economic units. The situation in Slovakia was also significantly complicated by the fighting with the Hungarian Red Army and the subsequent liberation of the country. The Banská Štiavnica region was not an exception, where industrial enterprises stopped production to a high extent and many employees lost their jobs. The development of the economic crisis and its consequences had an impact on the functioning of state and private enterprises in the town and its surroundings. The decline in production, rising unemployment and restrictions in the mining industry during the period under review caused great social tension and a difficult economic situation in the region.
