This article presents analysys of the negotiations related to Great Britain’s exit from the European Union, which directly concerned the Irish border. It is also intended to present the mechanisms used in the legal regulations determining the status of the Irish border and, de facto, the whole of Northern Ireland. The decision taken by the British in the referendum of June 23, 2016 had a significant impact on the status of the Irish border and constituted most serious threat to the peace process in Northern Ireland since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. The fate of the peace process absolutely depends on the success of the solutions adopted during the negotiations between Great Britain and the European Commission.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę tej części negocjacji związanych z wyjściem Wielkiej Brytanii z Unii Europejskiej, która dotyczyła bezpośrednio granicy irlandzkiej. Zdaniem autora, tekst ma również przybliżyć unikalne mechanizmy zastosowane w regulacjach prawnych określających status granicy irlandzkiej i de facto całej Irlandii Północnej. Decyzja podjęta przez Brytyjczyków w referendum z 23 czerwca 2016 r. wpłynęła w znaczący sposób na status granicy irlandzkiej i stanowiła najpoważniejsze zagrożenie dla procesu pokojowego w Irlandii Północnej od podpisania Porozumienia Wielkopiątkowego w 1998 r. Los procesu pokojowego bezwzględnie zależy od sukcesu rozwiązań przyjętych w toku negocjacji między Wielką Brytanią a Komisją Europejską.
