The presence of Christian motifs in Serbian poetry can be traced from its beginnings to the present day. Among those motifs, which have an uninterrupted continuity, is certainly the motif of the Holy Mother of God, who becomes the key subject of address in many songs, especially in prayers and hymns. From Dimitrije Sinait, who created on Mount Sinai, to contemporary poets, there is a time frame of a thousand years. In this period, numerous poets whose inspiration was the Mother of God created their works, and in the second half of the 20th century, the motif of a Hilandar icon, Trojeručica, the Mother of God, occupies a very important place in Serbian poetry.
