Currently, road safety is one of the most important challenges in many areas: not only in terms of transport and logistics but also as far as social and economic issues are concerned. The constantly increasing road traffic and the growing number of transported goods and people are some of the challenges addressed through the activities of many ministries, institutions and social organisations. Ensuring appropriate safety conditions, aimed at the protection of human health and life, is currently among the most important objectives. Road traffic safety is therefore one of the most important aspects of the policy of Poland and other members of the European Union. Hence, more new procedural solutions should be sought to reduce the negative impact of road traffic on society, the environment and the economy. In this situation, one of the most important tools are programmes improving the safety of road users. The article presents the activities undertaken by Poland, as well as actions that result from the road safety strategy of the European Union.

Obecnie bezpieczeństwo w ruchu drogowym należy do najważniejszych wyzwań wielu dziedzin: zarówno w zakresie transportu, logistyki, jak i kwestii społecznej i ekonomicznej. Nieustannie wzrastający ruch drogowy oraz rosnąca liczba przewożonych towarów i osób znajdują się w spectrum działalności wielu resortów, instytucji i organizacji społecznych. Zapewnienie odpowiednich warunków bezpieczeństwa, których zadaniem jest ochrona zdrowia i życia ludzi, stanowi aktualnie najistotniejszą wartość. Bezpieczeństwo ruchu drogowego jest zatem jednym z najistotniejszych aspektów polityki zarówno Polski, jak i Unii Europejskiej. Innowacyjne rozwiązania powinny ograniczać negatywny wpływ ruchu drogowego przede wszystkim na społeczeństwo i środowisko. W tej sytuacji jednym z najistotniejszych narzędzi są programy wpływające na bezpieczeństwo użytkowników ruchu drogowego. W artykule zaprezentowano badania opinii społecznej na zagadnienia związane z bezpieczeństwem ruchu drogowego oraz przedstawiono działania, jakie podejmuje Polska, ale również te działania, które wynikają ze strategii bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego UE.
