This article compares images of animals belonging to the Korean zodiac contained in related Korean idioms and proverbs with images of the same animals in Polish language and culture. The author takes a number of Korean phrasemes and proverbs from Korean language dictionaries and uses them as a material to formulate theses on the image of the animals. The characteristics attributed to the various animals of the Korean zodiac are discussed, along with examples of related proverbs. Despite significant advances in technology (Korea currently ranks second in the world in technological expertise), Koreans show great devotion to their history and traditions, cherishing their cultural heritage. This study will attempt to familiarize the Polish reader with the role these animals played in the lives of Koreans, which is expressed in everyday language.
