The article, based on the results of nationwide sociological research, answers the questions of the extent to which religion actually determines the Poles’ behaviours. It analyses the ways in which people cope with cognitive dissonance between their religious identity and their opinions/habits etc. which do not conform with the official teaching of the Catholic Church. It also examines the issue of social expectations about changes in the Church and its teachings.

W opracowaniu omówiono wybrane obszary stanowiące ryzyko wykluczenia społecznego najstarszych Polaków w zależności od ich płci. Na podstawie twardych danych statystycznych, jak również wtórnej analizy danych ilościowych pochodzących z reprezentatywnych badań ogólnopolskich autor charakteryzuje na tle całej populacji osoby w wieku 65+ ze względu na ich cechy społeczno-demograficzne, omawia problemy ich codziennego życia, a także analizuje niewykorzystany potencjał, jakim dysponują. Choć ryzyko społecznego wykluczenia seniorów w Polsce jest relatywnie wysokie, to największe zagrożenie w tym zakresie powodują, jak się wydaje, nie tyle czynniki zewnętrzne (stan zdrowia, ubóstwo), ile dezaktywizacja zawodowa, autoizolacja i raczej bierne spędzanie wolnego czasu. Kobiety w wieku 65+ z różnych względów częściej narażone są na wyklu-czenie społeczne niż mężczyźni.

The study attempts to identify certain areas that cause the risk of social exclusion of the oldest Poles depending on gender. Based on hard statistical data, as well as secondary analysis of quantitative data from representative nationwide surveys, the author analyses socio-demographic characteristics of people aged 65+, problems of their daily life, as well as their untapped potential. Although the risk of social exclusion of seniors in Poland is relatively high, the greatest threats in this area are not the external factors (ex. health, poverty), but rather professional deactivation, self isolation and passive spending of free time. For various reasons the women aged 65+ are more likely to face social exclusion than the men.
