The main purpose of this article was to present, the functioning of the self-government of the Galician village by the example of the commune Brzezowa. The many issues related to the activities of local authorities have been analyzed: the practice of granting the right of belonging to a commune (“Heimathrecht”), ensuring the safety of residents, educational policies as well as maintenance of local roads. The source basis was the Book of Protocols of the Commune Council in Brzezowa for the years 1904–1934. In addition, research has been carried out at the National Archives in Kraków and at the Parish Archives in Dobczyce.  The legal acts constituting the basis for the functioning of the city authorities could not be omitted. It was therefore possible not only to recreate the activities of local authorities, but also to show many aspects of the life of the inhabitants of this Galician vilage.

The main purpose of this article was to present the role of economic institutions and associations in small town and rural environments in the interwar period. This was presented on the example of the Dobczyce judicial district, which was part of the Kraków Voivodeship. The source base were documents collected in the National Archives in Krakow and the Archive of New Records in Warsaw. The activities of Stefczyk’s Funds, agricultural associations and various types of cooperatives operating in the rural environment were discussed in detail. Attention was paid to the composition of the management boards of individual institutions and the initiatives undertaken that had an impact on the local community were presented. Local clergy, landowners and teachers were of an important role. Sometimes they sat on the boards of Stefczyk’s funds as well as agricultural circles or cooperatives. The article also touched upon the challenges that the above-mentioned institutions had to face.

Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest przybliżenie roli instytucji i stowarzyszeń gospodarczych w środowiskach małomiasteczkowych i wiejskich w okresie dwudziestolecia międzywojennego. Przedstawiono to na przykładzie dobczyckiego powiatu sądowego, który był częścią województwa krakowskiego. Podstawę źródłową stanowiły dokumenty zgromadzone w Archiwum Narodowym w Krakowie i Archiwum Akt Nowych w Warszawie. Szczegółowo omówiono działalność Kas Stefczyka, kółek rolniczych oraz różnego typu spółdzielni działających w środowisku wiejskim. Zwrócono uwagę na skład zarządów poszczególnych instytucji oraz przedstawiono podejmowane inicjatywy, które miały wpływ na lokalną społeczność. Dużą rolę odgrywali miejscowi duchowni, ziemianie i nauczyciele. Czasami zasiadali oni zarówno we władzach Kas Stefczyka jak i kółek rolniczych czy też spółdzielni. W artykule poruszono także wyzwania z jakimi musiały się zmierzyć wyżej wspomniane instytucje.
