In the summer of 2022, an intact early Middle Bronze Age grave was unexpectedly discovered during an advance rescue excavation near the village Častkovce (Nové Mesto nad Váhom district). It was an inhumation burial of a juvenile individual, who was placed in an extended supine position with exquisite grave goods, such as numerous pieces of jewellery made of bronze, gold and amber, as well as several ceramic vessels. This discovery significantly contributes to the understanding of the complex social-cultural changes which took place in the territory of the so-called Váh group of the Maďarovce culture since the Koszider period. Moreover, it is the very first well-documented grave of the emerging Tumulus culture from the western Danubian Lowland dated to Bz B1 stage, what was also supported by results of 14 C analyses.
