Ekspresja architektury Coop Himmelb(l)au na tle koncepcji estetycznej Gillesa Deleuze’a

The article draws attention to the interdependence between Baroque aesthetics and contemporary expressive architecture. A contribution to the reflection has become the philosophical theory by Gilles Deleuze, who considered architecture in the context of a Baroque continuity and liquidity of a form. In this context particular works by group Coop Himmelb(l)au was analysed. On the one hand, the work of this design team is cosmopolitan and commercial, but on the other hand, it aptly fits into the terms of cultural continuity of Austrian and South German tradition. In fact, both Baroque and Expressionism influenced their character.

Artykuł ma na celu zwrócenie uwagi na współzależność pomiędzy estetyką barokową a współczesną architekturą, odznaczającą się ekspresyjnym wyrazem. Przyczynkiem do rozważań stała się teoria filozoficzna Gillesa Deleuze’a, który postrzegał architekturę poprzez pryzmat barokowej ciągłości i płynności form. Analizę w tym kontekście przeprowadzono w oparciu o wybrane realizacje grupy Coop Himmelb(l)au. Twórczość tego zespołu projektowego z jednej strony charakteryzuje kosmopolityzm, podejmowanie wyzwań dotyczących architektury komercyjnej, z drugiej zaś strony zdaje się sprawnie pod względem kulturowym wpisywać w ciągłość austriackiej i południowoniemieckiej tradycji architektonicznej. Zarówno bowiem barok, jak i ekspresjonizm odegrały dużą rolę w jej ukształtowaniu.

The article concerns the issue of the unique character of Hans Hollein (1934–2014) in the context of its expressiveness, the symbolic transmission and traditional support. Despite specific controversy, the authors achievements make him the one, who helped to identify the Austrian and German architectural thought against the background of international universalism. Against the general modern trends the text also raises the question of architectural elite with which he identified a designer.

Artykuł dotyka problematyki wyjątkowego charakteru twórczości Hansa Holleina (1934–2014) w kontekście jej ekspresywności, symbolicznego przekazu i umocowania w tradycji. Autorskie dokonania, pomimo określonych kontrowersji, pozwalają uznać tego architekta za postać, która przyczyniła się do identyfikacji austriackiej i niemieckiej myśli architektonicznej na tle międzynarodowego uniwersalizmu. Tekst odnosi się także do zagadnienia „architektury elitarnej”, z jaką utożsamiał się projektant, wobec ogólnie panujących nowoczesnych tendencji.

Resignation of the classical canons of aesthetics caused that art and thereby architecture follow the new rules. Independently of the different existing trends in art, two mainstreams are featured clearly: the organic and the geometrical. It is the reason why architecture oscillates between both of the infl uences. Because of those infl uences, abstract art found its interpretation in the architectural form. It is also worth emphasing the important role of expressionism against the background of changeable architecture.

Odejście od klasycznych kanonów estetyki spowodowało, że sztuka, a w konsekwencji także architektura kierują się innymi niż dotychczas zasadami. Niezależnie od istnienia różnych tendencji w sztuce wyraźnie wyróżniają się dwa nurty: organiczny i geometryczny. Wskutek tego zjawiska architektura oscyluje pomiędzy tymi dwoma wpływami. To one powodują, że sztuka abstrakcyjna w różnych aspektach odnajduje swoją interpretację w języku formy architektonicznej. Warta podkreślenia jest także znaczna rola ekspresjonizmu na tle stale przekształcającej się architektury.
