Being a politician is a specific situation for many reasons. First of all, because of having power, real and unprecedented, and the possibility of wider influence, as compared to other professions. There are theories that only persons who have particular predispositions to this type of profession decide to accept such a role. The purpose of this study is to identify the possi- bility of a connection between the political personality, as proposed by Harold D. Lasswell, and potential vulnerability to the occurrence of somatic diseases. The basis for the creation of this assumption was the recognition of neuroticism as a fundamental component of political personality. The article also presents the relationship between neuroticism and the predisposition for diseases. First of all, considerations apply to the mechanisms of this influence and its scope.

Bycie politykiem jest sytuacją specyficzną z wielu powodów. Przede wszystkim z powodu posiadania władzy, realnej i bezprecedensowej, w stosunku do innych podmiotów, możliwości szeroko rozumianego wywierania wpływu.

This paper analyzes the phenomenon of political conflict from the point of view of Stevan. E. Hobfoll’s Conservation of Resources theory. The first part is devoted to considerations on the principal sources of political conflict and the general pattern of its course in view of selected theories from political science and psychology. It presents the mechanisms of both cognitive and emotional functioning of individuals and groups in a conflict situation. The second part reviews the basic assumptions of the Conservation of Resources theory. This encompasses considerations on the resources that are politically significant, their definitions, and conclusions on the management of political resources. First and foremost, the analysis concerns the functions of conflict which may constitute a source of both an increase in, and loss of resources; additionally, conflict as such can also be perceived and treated as a kind of resource. The paper presents examples of political events in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Political activity is a type of social activity displayed by citizens. Observations and research indicate that gender can be a factor which conditions its degree and forms. Apart from biological gender, which shapes the societal roles of women and men, additional factors that are supposedly responsible for their activities include elements of the system of beliefs (i.e. acknowledged political values, conviction that political activity has an importance, level of satisfaction with democracy as well as individualism and collectivism understood as an element of individual’s mentality). The impact of those factors on degree of conventional political activities among women and men is the subject of surveys which were conducted in 2004, 2010, and 2014 on a group of 1048 students from Polish universities. The received results show that differences in political activity between surveyed men and women as well as varying determinants in both groups are slowly fading away. The most important predictors of women’s political activity include: conviction of its significance in democracy and (dis)satisfaction with the way it functions.
