Pobożność ludowa sytuuje się na styku teologii i kultury ludowej. Pierwsza określa treść pobożności, druga jej formy. Pobożność ludowa okazuje się kulturową przestrzenią naszej wiary. W ramach teologii ważna jest mariologia – nauka teologiczna o Matce Pana, stąd też w centrum pobożności ludowej, co znamienne dla warunków polskich, staje pobożność maryjna. Wymaga ona starannego kształtowania, w czym uprzywilejowana rola przypada katechezie. Nie można jednak redukować tej ostatniej do zajęć typu szkolnego. Katechetyczny wymiar mają też związane ze czcią Maryi praktyki religijne, jak różaniec, cześć dla wizerunków Maryi, pielgrzymki do sanktuariów, a także odmawiane w ich trakcie modlitwy (jak np. litanie).

Popular piety is situated midway between theology and popular culture. The former determines the content of piety, the latter its forms. So popular piety turns out to be a cultural space of our faith. Mariology – as a theological doctrine about the Mother of the Lord – is important as part of theology. Hence, devotion to Mary is in the centre of popular piety, which is characteristic for the Polish conditions. It requires careful shaping in which catechesis has a privileged role. But the latter can not be reduced to the type of school activities. Religious practices associated with the veneration of Mary, such as rosaries, reference for the images of Mary, pilgrimages to Her sanctuaries, as well as the prayers recited in their course (like, for example, litanies), also have the catechetical dimension.

W wychowaniu moralnym centralne miejsce zajmuje wychowanie sumienia. Nie jest to obecnie zadanie łatwe, m.in. ze względu na silnie dziś się zaznaczający proces sekularyzacji moralności, zatem emancypowania się poglądów, postaw, zachowań moralnych spod wpływu religii, zwłaszcza spod uzasadnień typu religijnego. Współczesny człowiek w autonomizacji sumienia, w indywidualizacji ocen oraz idących za nimi wyborów moralnych, chce upatrywać osobistą drogę do nieskrępowanej wolności. Bywa, że taki człowiek wręcz nie chce być wychowywany. Jednym z podstawowych środków, jakimi dysponuje Kościół w swej wychowawczej posłudze, jest katecheza. Autor przygląda się najpierw fenomenowi sumienia oraz jego związkom z prawdą i wolnością (punkt 1), następnie zjawisku sekularyzacji moralności w warunkach polskich (punkt 2), wreszcie katechezie, w toku której ma się realizować formacja, czyli wychowywanie sumienia (punkt 3). Stąd analizy są prowadzone w różnych konwencjach badawczych: kolejno w etycznej, socjologicznej i katechetycznej.

Education of conscience occupies a central place in moral education. It is not now an easy task, among other things, due to strong today, pointing out the process of secularization of morality, thus emancipating the views, attitudes, moral behavior from the influence of religion, especially from the religious justifications type. Modern man in the autonomy of conscience, individualized assessments and reaching for their moral choices wants to be seen as a personal way to unfettered freedom. It happens that a person simply does not want to be brought up. One of the basic resources of the Church in its educational ministry is catechesis. The author looks at the first phenomenon of conscience, and his ties to the truth and freedom (point 1), then the phenomenon of secularization of morality in Polish conditions (point 2), and finally catechesis, in the course of which is to pursue the formation of conscience (point 3). Thus, the analysis is carried out in various conventions of research: successively in the ethical, sociological and catechetical.
