The Constitution Dei Verbum concerning the Divine revelation is one of the masterpieces of the Second Vatican Council. Bishops and theologians worked on it over a three year period discussing its important issues. The young theologian Joseph Ratzinger influenced the text even before the Council began as he was asked for a theological critique of the prepared schema. He wrote a commentary on DV shortly after the Council ended. Henri de Lubac wrote a commentary on the first chapter of the Constitution several years later. The article uses these reflections to create a dialogue between these two remarkable figures.

The article compares what the Church means by Tradition, with “traditional” faith, values and life style. The author suggests that although in several cases there is a major difference between them, traditional values and faith can be for many people the way to discover the vitality of Tradition. The main attribute of Tradition is not to be unchangeable – as the Church is in a maturing process in its views and practices on a number of issues (e.g. the question if someone who commits suicide should receive a Christian funeral, etc.) but to be interpreted as being vital at all times.

The contribution is based on the Old Testament background of the understanding of the assembly, and in the New Testament view it approaches the essence of synodality from the point of view of the “communio” of the Church, which takes place most profoundly in the celebration of the Eucharist. In the common celebration, unity is created by the participation of all members in the Body of Christ. The Church lives in a world which is organized democratically in many places, so it is necessary to investigate how democracy can be related to synodality, and how it can contribute to the understanding of the “communio” of the Church.

Príspevok vychádza zo starozákonného pozadia chápania zhromaždenia a v novozákonnom pohľade približuje podstatu synodality z hľadiska pojmu „communio“ Cirkvi, čo sa uskutočňuje najhlbšie v slávení Eucharistie.

The goal of this contribution is to demonstrate the harmonious unity in God’s attributes. This includes justice which acts in absolute unity with God’s loving goodness. It is thus sometimes necessary for God to punish his creatures if their actions do not correspond to their knowledge of God’s love. Man has to experience being loved by God and respond by choosing freely to obey him.

J. H. Newman discovered in an exceptional way the ecclesiological-theological principle of the development of Church doctrine, which is already established in the Scriptures in its foundations and develops in a natural way. Scripture almost anticipates this process into the future, uncovering God's secrets more and more deeply. The whole Church participates in this process as pastorum ac fidelium consensus, which Newman presents on the current example of the preparations for the declaration of the dogma of Immaculate Conception. The reflection can be continued with the question, to what extent the consensus fidelium, deeply rooted in the Church, also has connections towards synodality.
SK
