The problem of mortality rate of inhabitants of Łódź according to causes of deaths was discussed in comparison with four big towns of Poland i.e. Warsaw, Poznań, Cracow, and Wroclaw. In the light of this comparison for the period of 196O-1974 the situation in Łód£ is rather unfavourable. One of the main causes of deaths, and namely diseases of circulatory system show the highest dynamics in Łódź. On the other hand, coefficients of deaths caused by neoplasm continue to be higiest despite lower than in other towns growth rate. Mortality due to tuberculosis, which was one of the main causes of deaths in the past, has been reduced to an almost negligible degree. This unfavourable situation of Łódź in ths field of mortality rate as compared with other towns was due not only to deaths caused by neoplasma, and circulatory diseases but also to deaths caused by other factors (e.g. cirrhosis of liver, accidents, pneumonia and others).

The analysis performed by the author aimed at compiling a list of factors determining professional stability of teachers. It was based on results of researches conducted among the teaching personnel in grammar schools of Łódź in 1970 and 1971. On the basis of aggregation inputs from the point of view of the average age there was compiled a list of potential stabilization factors. This list including: type of school, sex, marital status, and education was next verified by means of such standards of comparison as: 1) average number of years on the job, 2) fluctuation coefficients, 3) stabilization coefficients, 4) logical premises (the subregion was included as well). This operational lowed to approve of the full list of factors even though the oretical analysis was not always confinned in the studies. There should be constructed tables of duration of the professional life and described the shaping of average continued loyalty to the performed job.

The article represents and attemptat definition of changes in the level of wages and pensions in the population group at the retirement age. The analysis was performed in dynamic approach and covers the period from 1974-1976. It allows among others to formulate the following conclusions: 1. In 1974 the average total pension measured by means of the arithmetic average represented only 47 p.c. of the average wage of people employed in the socialized sector of the economy. 2. Relationships between average pensions and average wages in 1975 corresponded to those from 1974. In 1976 the ration between both magnitudes was very much cimilar to the level from 1974 and 1975. These big disproportions in the obtained incomes may thus become a factor if professional activization of the population in the post-production age.
