Maciej Świerkocki notes that reading was and still is an exclusive and intellectual activity, an important part of education of a pragmatic society oriented on the acquisition of information. The author points out that reading is like slow food, as it is associated with slowness and contemplation, today — with the world of creation rather than mimetism. He links the postmodernisation of reading with postmodernisation of literature.

Artykuł stanowi próbę zdefiniowania gonzo journalism w kontekście rozważań nad „literackością” i „dziennikarskością”. Łże-reportaż Ziemowita Szczerka „Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje” porównany został z tekstami Huntera S. Thompsona i książkami reporterskimi Jacka Hugo-Badera. Autorka stara się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, jakie konsekwencje dla „dziennikarskości” tekstu ma wprowadzenie fikcyjnego narratora i co decyduje o zawarciu paktu faktograficznego z czytelnikiem.

The article is an attempt to define gonzo journalism in the context of the debate on the “literariness” and “journalistic” nature. The quasi-reportage by Ziemowit Szczerek “Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje” [Mordor will come and eat us] is compared with the texts by Hunter S. Thompson and reportage books by Jacek Hugo-Bader. The author tries to answer the question about the consequences of introducing a fic - tional narrator for the “journalistic nature” of a text, and what determines the fac- tual pact with the reader.

A review of the book by Tomasz Mizerkiewicz Literatura obecna. Szkice o najnowszej prozie i krytyce. [Present literature. Sketches on the latest prose and criticism]. Mizerkiewcz focuses on the status and place of literature in the modern world. The bookconsists of a collectionof texts (scholarly and opinion-forming) focusing on a number of thematic fields: history of recent literature, departing from postmodernism, relation between literature and politics, otherness (Jewish and gender themes), popular genres, debut, biography, and criticism. The author, in a very subjective and individual way, answers the question of whether and how literature is still present. He diagnoses recent Polish prose, determines trends and directions of literature. The book concludes with a manifesto by the author and criticin the form of a questionnaire.
